Admissions 2022-23

Fee Structure:

  • Form fees: Rs 500/- (non-refundable, to be paid in cash only, at the time of audition. Please carry exact change with you.)
  • Admission Fees (one time, non-refundable, in cash only, to be paid by selected candidates, after audition results are announced):

Indian Nationals: Rs 5000/-

Foreign Nationals: Rs. 8000/-

  • Quarterly Tuition and Instrument Fees for New Admissions in 2023-24 (non-refundable, to be paid every three months, in cash only, by the 15th of July/October/January/April):

Indian Nationals: Rs 9000/- (@Rs 3000/- per month)

Foreign Nationals: Rs 15000/- (@Rs 5000/- per month)

  • Quarterly Tuition and Instrument Fees for Students Enrolled Before 2023 (non-refundable, to be paid every three months, in cash only, by the 15th of July/October/January/April):

Indian Nationals: Rs 6000/- (@Rs 2000/- per month)

Foreign Nationals: Rs 15000/- (@Rs 5000/- per month)

A Late Fee of Rs 200/- per month will be levied after the due date.

Fees are payable in cash for all 12 months, irrespective of holidays,

and are subject to revision.

Instructions for Admissions

  • Admission forms for the following subjects will be available online from 10am on 1st May 2023 to 5pm on 5th May 2023, on Gandharva Mahavidyalaya’s website:
  1. a) Hindustani Music
  2. i) Vocal
  3. ii) Instrumental (Sitar, Flute, Tabla and Harmonium)
  4. b) Indian Classical Dances

Odissi, Kathak

Admission Age (as on 1st May 2023):

Hindustani Vocal Music:

Girls classes (Age: 15 years and above)

Boys classes (Age: 15 years and above)

Children’s class (Age: 11 to 15 years)

Instrumental Music:

Flute, Sitar, Tabla, Harmonium (Age: 11 years and above)

Odissi and Kathak Dance

(Age: 11 years and above)

  • Please note that the form fees (non-refundable) should be paid at the time of audition. Unpaid forms will be considered invalid.
  • One can select class timings and audition timings while filling the form online. Please read all the options carefully.
  • No Bharatanatyam admissions will be held this year.
  • Number of forms and seats are limited, and forms will be

available on first-come-first-served basis. After filling the forms online, auditions will be held offline at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya from 8th May to 13th May 2023 (audition slot can be selected while filling the online form). Admissions will be granted on the basis of the audition results. The decision of the Vidyalaya will be final; kindly accept it gracefully.

  • A class-wise list of selected candidates will be shared on the Vidyalaya website on 15th May 2023, 10am. It is the responsibility of the candidates to check the list and make the necessary payments.
  • Selected candidates are required to pay the admission fees in cash only, at the Vidyalaya office from 15th May to 20th May 2023, 10am to 1pm, and 3pm to 5pm.
  • Classes for new admissions will begin from 3rd July 2023.
  • All classes will be held offline.
  • Please note that the admission process is subject to change.

Auditions

 

  • Music candidates: Please prepare a short 1-minute song (classical / semi-classical / film / devotional / folk) for the audition.

Dance candidates: Please prepare a short 2-minute dance sequence with music (classical / semi-classical / film/ devotional / folk) for the audition. Please bring your own music and playback device.

Instrumental Music candidates: Viva only. Not required to carry any musical instruments.

  • Please make sure you reach the Vidyalaya 15 minutes prior to your audition. Do not be late. You can look up the address and location in advance to avoid last-minute delays.
  • Please carry a print-out of your duly filled form.
  • You will be permitted to enter the Vidyalaya premises only at the designated time of your audition.
  • Only the candidates appearing for the audition will be permitted to enter the Vidyalaya premises. Relatives/friends accompanying the candidate, if any, will have to wait outside the gate. Only children below 15 years will be allowed to be accompanied by one parent/guardian, who will have to stay in the waiting area

while the audition takes place.

  • Please wear Covid masks and carry a sanitizer for personal safety. Kindly carry your own water bottles.
  • Please cooperate with the Vidyalaya officials and staff in order to make the process as smooth and safe as possible.
  • Gandharva Mahavidyalya will take all necessary precautions to make sure that the audition process is safe during Covid times.

However, we do not take any responsibility in case of unforeseen situations.

  • Due to COVID restrictions, you will be permitted to enter the Vidyalaya premises only at the designated time of your audition.
  • Only the candidates appearing for the audition will be permitted to enter the Vidyalaya premises. Relatives/friends accompanying the candidate, if any, will have to wait outside the gate. Only children (8 to 12 years old) will be allowed to be accompanied by one parent/guardian, who will have to stay in the waiting area while the audition takes place.

General Rules

  1. Minimum age for admission is 11 years (as on 1st May 2023).
    Children’s classes are for the age-group of 11 to 15 years.
  1. Admission to the Vidyalaya is open to all persons irrespective of caste, creed or religion. There are separate classes for male and female students in vocal music.
  2. Applicants for admission are required to undergo a preliminary test/audition.
  3. Kathak classes are for 45 minutes each, three days a week.
    All other classes are held three days a week, for one hour each.
  1. Tuition and Instrument fees are to be paid quarterly, in cash, in advance by the 15th day of every quarter. A late fee of Rs. 200/- will be levied per month after the due date.
  2. Students who do not deposit fees for 1 quarter (along with late fee) shall not be allowed to attend classes until all pending fees are paid. Those failing to pay fees for 2 consecutive quarters (along with late fees) will have their names struck off the rolls of the institute without prior intimation. In special cases where readmission is granted, admission fees will be payable again.
  1. Students are required to keep fee-receipts for record.
  2. All fees, once paid, are non-refundable.
  3. Admission fees must be paid only after audition and final selection.
  4. Attendance is strictly enforced and students are required to attend classes regularly. 75% attendance is compulsory.
  5. A Gandharva Mahavidyalaya identity card is compulsory for students, and this must be carried to the Vidyalaya. In case of loss of identity card, a new one will be issued on payment of Rs. 200/-.
  6. In case of unavoidable circumstances, the teacher of any class can be changed during the course of annual study.
  7. In the absence of a class teacher for a short period, arrangements will be made to provide a substitute teacher.
  8. Change in the address and contact details of a student should be immediately notified to the office.
  9. No persons other than students of the Vidyalaya are allowed inside the classrooms except with the permission of the Principal.
  10. Parents, guardians or children accompanying the student, who are not students of the Vidyalaya themselves, have to wait outside the building in the waiting area.
  11. Students have to obtain prior permission of the Principal for participation in any public programme, failing which their names can be struck off the rolls.
  12. All students are expected to dress with decorum. Dance students have to follow an appropriate dress code as suggested by the teacher (Kurta-Churidaar/Salwaar-Kameez/Frock-Slacks, Dupatta). The dance dress may be brought in a bag and the students may change at the Vidyalaya.
  1. Use of mobile phone is not allowed during class hours. It has to be kept on silent or switched-off mode. Any audio or video recording in the premises is strictly prohibited.
  2. Personal belongings have to be guarded by the students themselves. The institution or its staff will not be held responsible for any loss.
  3. The bag for vocal/instrumental class should contain notebook, pen/pencil etc. and dance class should contain ghungroo, notebook, pen/pencil, small towel etc. Students are encouraged to carry their own water bottles.
  4. Music and dance training demands sincerity and hard work, and there are no shortcuts or easy fame. Parents are requested not to pressurize the teachers or Vidyalaya officials to have their ward included in choirs, performing troupes, etc. since such selections are based purely on merit.
  1. Student certificates will be issued only after completion of 2 years’ training.
  2. Students are liable to pay for any damage and/or loss caused to any property (including musical instruments of the Vidyalaya).
  3. The Vidyalaya remains closed on Sundays and observes important holidays of the year (notified from time to time). It closes for a period of approximately six weeks on account of summer vacation, around one week in October for Durga Pooja and for 2 weeks in December for Christmas/winter vacations.
  4. Students are encouraged to participate in the cultural functions organized by the Vidyalaya.
  5. Students are advised to read the notice board/website regularly.
  6. Foreign students are required to submit copies of their passport, visa etc. It is mandatory for the Vidyalaya to inform immigration authorities about new admissions of foreign students.
  7. Only first-aid medical facility will be available in the Vidyalaya.

Note
• Indiscipline or misbehaviour by a student or parent/guardian, such as talking rudely, arguing with the teachers/staff, noisily disturbing the classes/Vidyalaya premises, destruction of Vidyalaya property, using abusive language or threat, delay in or nonpayment of fees, making audio/video recordings in the Vidyalaya premises, posting such files on social media, or failing to adhere to any rule of the institute may lead to the expulsion of that student.
